Paint the ugly carpet before covering it with the area rug. The first thing to do is find the right kind of rug. Pour the extended paint into a tray remove excess and begin rolling onto the area in small sections. Wood staining products can be difficult to remove from fabric due to the dye oils and chemicals contained in the product.

One strategy is to paint a border others are to make a checkerboard or simulate tiles. Step 1 remove or mask the baseboards molding and the door sill if any. To add a faux fabric technique to a faux painted rug mix one part paint extender with four parts paint and mix well. Jazz up a plain concrete or wood floor by painting a geometric pattern that looks like an area rug. Paint a pattern on the floor if desired using a different color or a different shade of the same color. Note that using a light colored paint on a dark carpet won t give you the intended result.

This paint over stain technique is not a stain at all but because you paint in one direction the base coat shows through in such a way to look like wood grains providing a subtle barn wood finish to an existing piece. Use a rag or cloth instead of a sponge which may absorb the stain. This technique has less sheen than gel stain and because you are using latex paint you get the same results every single time. Thoroughly stir the wood stain before applying.

Paint adheres well over water based stain so after completing the prep steps outlined above apply a water based latex. It can be used as a spot cleaner or in a carpet cleaning machine i would do the spot cleaning first then the whole carpet using a machine these can be rented at supermarkets i paid a service to come and clean my carpets in my new house they did a good job a few tiny stains were left. However while it is nearly impossible to remove large stains especially those that have completely soaked through the fibers there is hope for removing small drips or an accidental smear on clothes carpet and upholstery. Test on a piece of scrap wood.

For instance white paint on a black carpet might turn out looking gray.
